But it seems the cover of Mexican PLAYBOY is causing quite a stir among the devotees of la Virgen Maria for its adaptation of her imagery for their latest cover featuring model Maria Florencia Onori…
Since hitting newstands last Thursday (the day before the religious holiday for the Virgen of Guadalupe…excellent timing, no?), the magazine has unleashed a shit storm from the general public.
Reps for the magazine have denied any connection to the Virgin Mary, saying that the cover theme was intended to inspire a “renaissance-like mood.” However, the Catholic community is still up in arms over the cover.
Father Albert Cutie, host of Radio La Paz, told CNN:
“There’s no doubt that she’s a beautiful woman. But a stained-glass window and the veil that looks like that, certainly there’s a reference to Mary. Whoever tells you there isn’t is simply being hypocritical or not very honest. And that’s what I don’t like about the statement from Playboy magazine. I think that they timed it not only with the Virgin of Guadalupe, but also with the month of December. How many nativity scenes are out there this time of the year? How many times is Mary a central figure in this whole celebration? And this is offensive. This is very offensive. It’s blasphemous.”
Glenda Umana of CNN Español summed up the drama by saying:
“There has not been a lot of publicity. It’s very interesting, but certainly it has been very, very offensive, not only for the Catholics in Mexico, but all Catholics worldwide. As we can see, this Mexican version of Playboy magazine shows the cover of a model as you were explaining — María Florencia Onori from Argentina — posing like the Virgin Mary. This was published last week on the exact date, Rick, when millions of Mexicans celebrate the festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Very important, not only for Mexicans but for all Latino-Americans.”

Of course its disrespectful from the Mexico Playboy, especially because they know how devoted to the Virgin Mexicans are, and that’s why they did it, they wanted to cause controversy at their expense.
I’m not Mexican… I’m not Hispanic… I’m not even Catholic! But as a spiritual Black woman this is OFFENSIVE! PERIOD!

yeah i saw the photos from the magazine online…that’s BS that Playboy MX didn’t know any better. In the photos clearly have religious symbolism and in one or two of them she’s wearing a crown with a cross on it. I’m not against the nudity itself as if it were done under any other back drop or location, it would’ve actually been a tasteful shoot. It’s shows bad judgement in my opinion, both on the part of PB and Maria Florencia Onori…

I am in a frenzy over fathers day coming up. My dad is soo cool let me tell you. No really I haven’t the slighest clue what to get him for fathers day.
