Remember when ABC randomly decided to shelf America Ferrera’s comedy hit “Ugly Betty”? Well, ‘Betty’ is off the shelf for now, but some critics are claiming that her new slot has sealed her doom.
Starting next season, the beloved ‘Betty Suarez’ is being shuffled to a new Friday night timeslot - a move perceived by many to be condemning the show to cancellation.
Not since the mid-90s has Friday night been a must-see TV time. Instead, Thursdays have long been “the” spot to have for primetime success.
But according to ABC President Stephen McPherson, there’s nothing but love behind this rescheduling:
“I love the show [and] America [Ferrera] is one of our biggest stars. [But] you look at Betty’s declining ratings on Thursday night and we think we have a big opportunity with Flash Forward. I’d love to see [Betty] have a great run on Friday night the way Ghost Whisperer has [for CBS].”
Hmm…is he talking about that Jennifer Love Hewitt show where she talks to ghosts? Either we’ve been away from our TV for too long, or this guy has got one crazy idea of what a ‘hit’ show really is.
What do you all think? Can ‘Betty’ bounce back from her new Friday night timeslot? Or is this the begining of the end for MODE magazine?
Our girl America Ferrera partied it up last night in New York in celebration of her upcoming cover for GOTHAM magazine.
The “Ugly Betty” star showed up in one sexy, little, blue dress with one tantalizingly low neckline. Click to see more pictures of America at her New York party.
People en Españolrecently released its list of the 25 Most Influential Latinas in Hollywood, and named the likes of Salma Hayek, Shakira, America Ferrera, Jennifer Lopez, and Penélope Cruz to its ranks.
Salma reportedly expressed her happiness at the news, who confessed that she had to go through a lot of mess when she was first breaking into the biz. Apparently, she was encouraged to loose her accent, as well as being advised that she wouldn’t have any work past the age of 30.
Now, at 42, Salma is still one of the beautiful -and successful- women in Hollywood. Take that, haters!
Though the Latinas at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards were few and far between, there were two that stood out: hondureñaAmerica Ferrera and baby boricua Victoria Justice.
Both managed to look stylish yet kid friendly; America in one form-flattering red dress, and Victoria in a funky and chic blue ensemble.
If it were up to me, I would vote for both! Especially in light of the fashion disaster that follows…
In a blend of old and new, Glamour magazine put together its photo spread of “American Icons,” featuring today’s brightest starlet portraying “seven decades of female risk takers, rule breakers and style makers.”
Some of the mini-estrellas featured are Alexis Bledel as Rosie the Riveter, Camilla Belle as Mary Tyler Moore, Odette Yustman in a group shoot for ‘the women of Woodstock,’ and -I swear this one brought tears to my eyes- America Ferrera as Dolores Huerta.
It may be a small gesture, but its so heartening to see that, not only are Latina actresses being recognized as up-and-coming stars, but that Dolores Huerta got a place of honor as an American icon.

Enjoy these pics of America Ferrera on the set of “Ugly Betty” while you still can! Who knows when the mensos at ABC will get their act back together and give our ‘Betty’ back her prime time slot.
Until then, soak in all the Suarez you can and (in case any of you ladies out there are feeling me on this one) feel just a little bit awkward at noticing that some of Betty’s outfits look remarkably similar to my own.

For a while there, it looked like actress America Ferrera was pinned to be one of the many starlets auditioning for roles in the “Twilight” sequel, “New Moon.” But before this goes any further, let us clear the air for you!
The girl actually up for the part is actress America Young (yeah, I have no idea who she is either, but we found a picture of her anyway) and not our dear ‘Betty.’ News hit the web earlier today that it was our America (Ferrera) who had auditioned for the role of “Emily” earlier this week, and she was subsequently misquoted as saying:
“The casting director, you fans of the book will be glad to know, has read the books and loves them. And you can tell. His direction was spot on for the character. I loved the books. I would so love to be in the movie!!!”
But, it turns out the press singled out the wrong America. Who knew there were so many of them in Hollywood? Good news too, because I wouldn’t know any ‘Twilight’ characters from my left foot, so I wouldn’t have been able to make any judgment calls on this one!
